A large-scale and long running change of use project involving a former malt-roasting house in a conservation area which had fallen into dereliction and the client is now converting to a family home. This project involved taking a previous outline planning consent through a revised planning scheme to improve the design, adding a mezzanine bedroom level, freeing up basement space for a games room and utility spaces. Work will soon be finishing on a project involving an Edwardian terraced house which extended at both ground and loft level. The practice has also worked with the energy consultants involved to enable a full-building insulation and refurbishment/retro-fit so as to make the original solid-walled terraced house’s energy requirement suitable so as to allow this to be heated with an air source heat-pump only, without reliance on gas.

Planning is expected to be given soon on a project involving extensive overhaul, refurbishment and extension of an existing bungalow in a conservation area setting in rural Wiltshire. This will create a new generous new family home with a doubled footprint as compared to the original house. The concept is to create a low energy building with the new extension constructed using low-carbon and low embodied energy materials for the new build, and significant thermal upgrades to the existing retained part of the building.
